Okay, so I’ve been out and about for a while, and haven’t been around online!
I went to visit my awesome-sauce in-laws (I love them back, which is what makes the sauce so awesome) over Christmas and spent some time in the 70+ degree weather of Tuscon where the drivers are crazy but the home cooking is delicious. Honestly, I had no idea my mother-in-law could cook such amazing lasagne! Usually she’s very shy about cooking, but she did a great job! (…aaand I now have the extra weight to prove it!)
Speaking of weight, I’ve been back at the gym for a few months now. I’ve not been beating myself up for “underperforming” at the gym (whatever that means) and I’ve just been doing the best as I can, and if one day the effort is a little less than the day before it, that’s just how it goes. I’ve been using the elliptical (which I have an extreme love/hate/hate/hate relationship with) and the quad extension machine to try to build back some stability into my left knee. It seems to be working because I managed to participate in Etsunen-geiko, (a traditional “New Year’s Eve” aikido practice where you practice in the middle of the night as the clock rolls past midnight) and my knee didn’t twinge once!
I did manage to over do thing on the calf extensions though, and have been hobbling around the house for the past few days, but I’d far rather hobble because I over did things rather than because my knee had gone out on me again.
Yeah, New Year’s Eve was the first practice I’d been to in a long time where I wasn’t wincing and waiting for my knee to lock and then give out. For a while, it was getting to where I couldn’t relax until I re-injured my knee in class, because I spent so much time worrying about it. That’s just a terrible place to be. It makes you wonder if your aikido days are done for, and it’s a huge relief to know that through patient stretching and weights, you can start to rebuild yourself. I can only imagine how injury free I’d be if I really had a clue as to what I was doing!
Anyways, I have a short story coming out in an anthology tomorrow, and I’ve a schedule of pimpage to do, and the next seven days are going to all be about what’s in that book. Mostly I’m just here to give y’all a heads up on that, and to (apparently?) complain about my bad knee. (Sorry about that.)
Okay, back to work for me. I’ve got another thousand words I need to wrangle onto the page, and then I’ve a few drawings to do before next week’s posting schedule starts up again!
